FAQs

Is Juris Writer a law firm?

Yes. Although we work almost exclusively with other lawyers and law firms, rather than directly with clients, we are a law firm consisting of a single lawyer. Patrick C. Anderson is a licensed Illinois attorney and Juris Writer, LLC is his solo practice.

Can you do work outside of Illinois?

Yes. Juris Writer performs ghostwriting services and litigation consulting for lawyers nationwide. Patrick prepares drafts almost exclusively for a hiring attorney, then reviews and signs the brief, and takes ultimate supervisory responsibility for the work. Juris Writer has relationships with attorneys, not their clients. Working in a consulting capacity with a hiring attorney allows Juris Writer to offer writing and research services to lawyers across the country.

How does the process work?

Juris Writer offers a free initial consultation during which we discuss the nature of the case and the scope of the proposed work. Next, we briefly review whatever case documents you think are relevant to the project. Then, send you an engagement agreement. After the agreement is signed, we do our thing. We can provide updates as frequently or infrequently as you’d like while the work is in progress. Finally, we will provide a full written draft of the work at least 2-3 days before your filing deadline to ensure that you have time to review and request any modifications that are required.

Who does the writing?

When you hire Juris Writer, you know who will be performing the work. That’s because we only have one lawyer. Patrick C. Anderson is Juris Writer’s only attorney and performs all of the professional and paraprofessional legal services offered by Juris Writer. In other words, Patrick does all the writing, research, and trial work himself.

How does payment work?

It’s flexible. Juris Writer can perform ghostwriting and consulting services on an hourly or flat fee basis, depending on the scope and complexity of the project. Bigger, more complex projects, higher cost. Smaller projects, lower cost. Pretty simple. All of the fee and payment terms will be laid out in our engagement agreement at the beginning of the project.

In certain situations, Patrick can also be retained for a full trial or to partner with you on your case under other available fee and payment arrangements.

How do you handle conflicts of interest?

As part of the initial consultation, Juris Writer completes a conflicts check to ensure that Patrick has not previously represented any of the parties involved in your case.

Will my client’s information remain confidential?

Yes. As a licensed attorney, Patrick is obligated to maintain client confidences in accordance with the applicable rules of professional responsibility. Juris Writer also utilizes secure document transfer technology.

What working arrangements do you offer?

You can hire Juris Writer for a single brief or proofreading project, or for a more cooperative arrangement working on all or part of a trial or appeal.

Can you work on short notice?

Yep. We offer rush rates for certain projects for completion within 72 hours.
